James Whitlock, MD

James Whitlock, MD, is a retired neurologist who spent most of his career caring for adults with severe traumatic brain injury in an acute rehabilitation hospital. Final practice years were spent at a VA Medical Center, seeing mostly new veterans with neurologic consequences of combat. During that time, he also served as an instructor in neurology at Boston University School of Medicine.

Retirement offered an opportunity to confront a lifelong fear of nuclear weapons. He has focused on education centered around nuclear history and policy. Dr. Whitlock seeks to understand the medical and environmental risks posed by nuclear weapons and hopes to discover new ways to raise awareness of those risks among political and military leaders. He also believes the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons represents humanity’s greatest hope for nuclear disarmament.
